Search engine optimization (SEO) is both the simplest and most complex initiative you will undertake when building an online business.
Despite mergers, departures, changes to algorithms, additions of images, videos, real-time, shopping portals, expansion, contraction and moving of maps, etc. etc. we continue to rely on the search engines to help us navigate our way through billions of web pages to find the information we need and want online to do our jobs or enrich our lives. And there is one thing that continues to tie all of them together:
Keywords
Find the words your target audience uses to find businesses, goods or services similar to yours and you’re halfway to building a successful business online. Using those words correctly is the other half of this extremely oversimplified equation. Where, when and how you use those keywords can be summed up in three broad areas:
- In your information architecture - in other words, you build SEO best practices into your site’s navigation structure
- On your pages – in the parts of your page that are seen by visitors and in the parts that are only seen by spiders
- Off your pages – in content placed on other sites that form or contain links back to specific pages on your site
SEO Strategy
I can take care of the complex jobs of helping you create and execute a winning SEO strategy that incorporates all three of these areas. SEO is at the heart of everything I do for my clients, from doing keyword research before I even begin building a blog or copywriting an onsite or offsite page. It’s what I’ve done since we all began talking about creating websites that were “hubs” of information with “spokes” that directed people there from other sites in 1998. As a first step, I can help you complete an SEO audit to determine where your best optimization opportunities lie with your current site.
SEO Copywriting
I can help ensure that best practices are “baked in” to SEO Copywriting I do for your new website or blog. Creating correctly optimized content for your website has become even more important after Google’s most recently algorithm changes. Onpage SEO has regained some of the importance it had steadily been losing to offline factors after Farmer and Panda.
Link building activities for many marketers changed radically after the “Panda” update early in 2011. Google’s crackdown on “thin” content that was little more than anchor text surrounded by meaningless key phrases did not radically affect the offpage content strategies I develop and put in to place for my clients. That’s because my content has never been “thin.” I believe in writing for humans with a focus on your ultimate conversion goals
My SEO strategy or copywriting work can be done on a project by project basis, or as part of an ongoing online marketing program.
